Can’t you hear the voice of wisdom? She is standing at the city gates

and at every fork in the road… Prov 8:1

Why we live:

1. Some live to get by.

2. Some live to get ahead.

3. Some live to get to the point.

Jesus said, “What a generation! No sense of God! No focus to your lives! Lk. 9:41

So honor the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone. But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:14-15

When my life is about God:

  • I make God the center.

… I want to help you to live right and to love the Lord above all else. 1 Cor. 7:35

“… if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life.” Ps 62:10

“Real life is not measured by how much we own.” Luke 12:15

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord... 1 Peter 3:15

It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and in everyone. Eph. 1:11

Some people have missed the most important thing in life--they don't know God. 1 Tim. 6:21

The Master, Jesus, on the night of his betrayal, took bread. Having given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body, broken for you. Do this to remember me.

After supper, he did the same thing with the cup: This cup is my blood, my new covenant with you. Each time you drink this cup, remember me. What you must solemnly realize is that every time you eat this bread and every time you drink this cup, you reenact in your words and actions the death of the Master. 1 Cor 11:23-26

My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I'm your choice! Psalm 16:5

When my life is about God:

  • God is my first priority.

If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. Matt 16:24

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

…I’ll give you my full attention…Lev. 26:9

Connection Group Questions:

These questions also work well for personal time with God.

  • What would you say your life is about? Explain.
  • What would you say are the top three priorities in your life?
  • In the talk, we mentioned making God the center. How do you make God the center of your life?
  • Do you fell that everything revolves around him in your life, or does he revolve around your activity?
  • How do you work this out in your daily life?
  • How do we make God our first priority?
  • We talked about surrender on Sunday, what does surrender mean to you? And how do you surrender your life?
  • Talk about what Jesus must have gone through in Gethsemane when He prayed “Not my will but your will be done”?
  • Can you give another example from Jesus’ life that shows him surrendering to God? (think hard)
  • How does Matt 16:24 and Luke 22:42 relate to this theme?
  • Since our lives are busy and full of activity, what are some practical ways you can “Make God your center” and make “God your first priority”?
